About the Retro Channel - Studio Channel
Studio Channel is a new hardware based channel strip developed by Lance
Keltner, industry recognized tone-master. As a lifetime musician, Lance
grew up working in studios on analog gear. He knew the best sounds were
produced by very rare, very expensive vintage equipment.
From Andy Johns:"After 42 years and 130 million in domestic sales, I know what I like.
The Retro Channel has wide fidelity and air. I'm going to be using it
all the time. I just wish I had more of them."
David Torn:
"ditto, my high-strung 12-string veillette gryphon, and ditto electric
basses: just killing! i've been "throwing" quite a few instruments
& mics "at it", as well: harmoniums, handclaps, any number of
acoustic guitars & ouds via large-format condensers and a multitude
of ribbon mics.....
..... and i'm more than thrilled with the Retro Channel's fat,
old-schoolesque range of tones & timbres. (oddly, i guess, i'm also
very happy that the unit generates so little ambient heat!, fwiw.)
kudos to y'all, really! it's a keeper."
Tony Levin:
"The Retro Channel gives me just what I need for lots of options
recording instruments, and I'm using it for all my vocals. Wish I'd had
it long ago."
Technical Information
A 3 Stage Channel strip, consisting of mic/instrument preamp, leveling amplifier, and program equalizer. We developed Studio Channel to capture the
sound of these vintage signal paths in an affordable, modern 2 rack
channel strip.
The vintage signal paths we chose to replicate with
the Studio Channel were inspired by the Telefunken V72 mic pre, LA2A
compressor and Pultec EQ.
We, at Retro Channel, found a magic sonic alchemy that added
depth and definition to vocal tracks, and gave drums more gain and snap
ever before.
The Preamp section of the Studio Channel is very flexible and provides
everything from 0 to +42db of gain. It will run the pre warm and clean,
or push it hard while controlling the final output with the
compressor/limiter and EQ on the unit.
The compressor provides both
limiting and compression. The EQ section has tweakable center points
much like the vintage EQ''s. The Studio Channel comes equipped with
phantom power, instrument and mic inputs and a defeat switch for the EQ
section.
